On February 25th, terror struck the geek community everywhere as beloved writer/director/actor/comedian/podcaster Kevin Smith suffered a massive heart attack at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA.
Smith had been scheduled to perform two 2-hour stand-up comedy shows to be filmed for future release by Comedy Dynamics. According to an Instagram post Smith made shortly after his ordeal, the first show seemed to go off without a hitch. “After the first show I felt kinda nauseous”, wrote Smith, “I threw up a little, but it didn’t seem to help. Then I started sweating buckets and my chest felt heavy. Turns out I had a massive heart attack.” Smith went on to say that he had 100% blockage of his LAD artery (often referred to as the “Widow-Maker”). Luckily after a successful stent placement, Smith was declared stable and instantly took to social media to let his fans know what had happened. On Tuesday, February 27th, Smith posted a live video on Facebook further detailing the situation and adding some of his signature mannerisms and humor.
What separates Smith from most celebrities is that he’s always been very open about all aspects of his life, both personal and professional. He always has a way of taking a drastically serious and frightening situation and making it light-hearted and worry-free. Smith has since returned home all of us here at That’s My Entertainment would like to wish him a safe and speedy recovery.
