Amidst the massive array of outside events linked to San Diego Comic Con, the realm of musical theatre still triumphs with the hilarious parody, “Game of Thrones: The Musical”. The Unauthorized Parody is based upon the hit HBO television series of the same name, which in turn is based upon the immensely popular book series, “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin.
Martin himself (well, an actor playing him) serves as the show’s Emcee as we are all transported to Winterfell, home of the Stark family. The musical chronicles the television series’ first season in which Eddard “Ned” Stark discovers a sinister plot to usurp the coveted iron throne. The musical also includes several comedic references to other seasons of the show as well as several instances of breaking the fourth wall.
Despite being designed specifically for fans of the TV show, the musical provides enough laughs while still keeping the plot coherent enough for the casual viewer. While the show has ended its San Diego run, it has been confirmed that the show is set to return to its native Los Angeles in the near future. With a top notch score, performances, and choreography, “Game of Thrones: The Musical” is one uproarious parody not to be missed.
