Chicago PD Brings in a New Rival

Things are about to heat up on Chicago PD as Voight will go head-to-head with John C. McGinley, one of the best character actors in the business. McGinley, whose first episode will air on Jan. 16, will play Brian Kelton a police superintendent intent on becoming the new Mayor of Chicago.

If there’s any actor that can handle himself in the world of Chicago PD it’s McGinley. His character will support Voight’s less than orthodox ways of doing business but the two won’t always see eye-to-eye. What will follow is going to be nothing less than epic television.

Bringing in McGinley is a stroke of genius on the part of the showrunners. The cast of Chicago PD can be intense and intimidating, that’s why they are there. Not everyone can hold their own. Just look at crossovers of seasons past and you will see even the Law & Order crew in New York gets squeamish at their methods.

But McGinley is a force of nature when it comes to acting. Just look at his current show Stan Against Evil where he constantly floats between comedy and drama, sometimes on a dime. Jason Beghe, who plays Voight, has very much the same persona. Getting the two of them in a room is sure to bring fireworks.
