DC FanDome Presents: Harley Quinn

In what was my most anticipated panel of FanDome, DC Universe’s Original Animated Series “Harley Quinn” took to the stage (or rather a Zoom meeting) to dish out what may be in store for the future of the series. Voice actors Kaley Cuoco (Harley), Lake Bell (Poison Ivy), Ron Funches (Killer Shark), Matt Oberg (Kite-Man), and Alan Tudyk (Clayface, Joker) joined executive producers Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey alongside supervising producer Jennifer Coyle were all in attendance.

The R-rated show became an instant favorite among fans and has gained a strong following. Is that following large enough to warrant a season 3? The show has yet to be renewed by DC Universe, or HBO Max (who just recently acquired DC Universe’s “Doom Patrol” for their third season). Despite not having been renewed yet, Halpern expressed “We want to focus on Harley and Ivy’s relationship. I’m less interested in if the Joker gets a new girlfriend than I am like ‘Let’s explore this relationship that we’ve spent two seasons building.'”

Each of the actors also took time to speak about their characters and what it was like to tackle such a “grown-up” version of these characters. “Cussing as the Joker seems natural,” Tudyk said. “That’s a natural marriage that the Joker would have foul language.”

While fans of the show were hoping this panel would bring about a season 3 announcement, we were unfortunately let down. With the recent change in leadership at HBO Max anything is possible, but I for one hope that Harley Quinn remains on the air for as long as South Park (also streaming on HBO Max).
