The Return of Horror Con!
It’s that time of year again! Where ghosts, ghouls, and a miscellaneous mass of monsters will gather: ready to party. To some, this may sound like a regular Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland but…no! This is for Horror Con Scotland 2026!
Despite only on its third year (officially a trilogy, like any good horror franchise!) Horror Con is now one of the biggest conventions in Europe. Horror Con describes itself as: ‘a bold, immersive event designed to inspire, and unite horror lovers from all walks of life.’
I attended in 2025 as a ‘punter’ and wandered around The Dark Market with a friend but this year I was lucky enough to go behind the screams! My first dilemma was whether to dress up this year whilst working as press? But I like to get ‘in and aboot it’ as we say in Scotland, so I dusted off my Pearl costume (sans plastic axe and fake blood this year, see I can be professional) and headed to the Scottish Event Campus (SEC); Scotland’s biggest exhibition centre for a day of spooky wholesome fun.
Upon entering the building; a 7ft (at least) tall, ‘cult creature’ waved at me enthusiastically… I knew I was in the right place. I was almost immediately intercepted by a rather ripped person sporting a black goats head. Before I could tell them how much I loved their performance in The Witch, they had ushered me into an occult circle with other press and influencers. I thought we were about to re-enact The Black Zodiac but another goat person informed us that we were going to vote who in the circle looked the ‘easiest for a demon possess’. The circle was whittled down until I won! They clearly don’t know me very well. But with that ice broken, and after enlisting the first goat person for a selfie with my prize in hand, I continued on.
Much like last year The Dark Market was an impressive sight. Hundreds of stalls by independent artists selling; horror merch, taxidermy, jewellery, and even tarot readings! It was easy to get lost amidst the beautiful merchandise, but I had to stay focused! This year I was here to see the celebrity panels.
First off was Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Cabin in the Woods) who regaled the audience with stories about his temporarily haunted apartment and how he was neighbours with Crispin Glover, who drove a hearse at the time. Wouldn’t think it of George McFly. Lenk also answered many Buffy centric questions from the audience, where we discussed why Buffy has such a long lasting effect. I think we all grew as people.
Next up was the Classic Horror Panel, with the utterly charming classic horror actress; Caroline Munro. Munro spoke of how her career evolved from taking a life drawing class to securing a part in Dracula A.D (1972) starring Christopher Lee as Dracula. Being bitten by Dracula was a ‘turning point’ in Munro’s life and career (ironically enough). Munro also commented on how Lee told her she had a ‘very nice neck to bite’. How’s that for a compliment?
I also enjoyed The Grimm Life Collective panel. Hearing about the YouTube pairs spooky wanderings around the US and UK.
But there was more than just panels. For those braver than I, there was three horror themed photo booths and a Dead By Daylight escape room. You could also meet the guests at the signing area. Tom Lenk, very kindly, agreed to an impromptu interview for TME.
Mr Lenk and I discussed his OTP in Buffy; Willow and Tara obviously, good choice! And how Andrew’s fanboy energy in Buffy was all Lenk’s idea; very impressive! For my final question; I asked him was there any scenes from his illustrious and varied career that unfortunately ended up on the cutting room floor that dissappointed him the most? After some consideration Lenk answered his scene towards the end of The Cabin In The Woods where he was holding up a sign to the security camera saying ‘the demon bat has my scent!’
Thank you to Horror Con for letting me be a part of its third instalment. It was a fun day filled with spooky goings-on, and I am very pleased to hear that Horror Con has already has a date for next year (April 24th 2027) with an even bigger space in the venue. Cannot wait for the reawakening!
