New York Comic Con is about to get its first-ever Indian-themed spotlight. The upcoming supernatural psychological thriller Mala will take center stage at the convention with a special panel on Saturday, October 11, marking a milestone moment for representation at the Javits Center.

Produced by the Indian mother-daughter team Nisha and Indigo Sabharwal, Mala promises a chilling exploration of dark mythos rooted in Indian lore. The panel will feature the Sabharwals alongside cast members Indigo Sabharwal (Curry Scent), Raw Leiba (The Walking Dead), Gisele George (The College Tour), Nikhil Kamkolkar (Love, Love), and Nehru Sabharwal, with filmmaker Trishul Thejasvi also joining the conversation. Attendees will be treated to an early glimpse of the film’s first-ever public clips and receive exclusive giveaways.

The story follows Reema, who inherits a mysterious abandoned resort on a remote tropical island. What begins as a search for answers about her family history quickly spirals into a descent into curses, tantric rituals, and spiritual reckonings. As Reema uncovers dark truths about her lineage, she is forced to confront betrayal, ancient powers, and her own transformation.

“This has been a true passion project from the start, giving us the opportunity to expose deep, suspenseful, enthralling themes of Indian mythos and lore across a gripping film,” said producer, co-director, and writer Nisha Sabharwal. “We’re very excited to have our official launch at New York Comic Con, and to offer fans an altogether new, otherworldly approach to a tried and true genre.”

The unveiling of Mala not only introduces an ambitious indie frightener to audiences but also breaks new ground at NYCC, offering fans a rare cultural perspective within the horror genre.

The panel takes place Saturday, October 11, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Room 409 at the Javits Center.
