After seven years and a series of roller coaster story arcs Disney and ABC are finally closing the book on Once Upon A Time. It was announced today that the series would end after this year after more than 150 episodes and a spin-off series.
The series told the story of Disney fairytale characters come to life and living in the real world. Each season allowed viewers to meet and gain new perspective on everyone from Aladdin to Captain Hook and the Seven Dwarfs.
The show had seen declining ratings after not just a soft reboot in its current storyline, with many of the core cast absent, but a change in schedule as well. Rather than drag it out ABC and Disney decided the best course of action was to give the series a proper ending.
“When we first heard Adam and Eddy’s pitch for Once Upon a Time, we knew it was something incredibly special. For seven years, they have captivated us with their creativity and passion while re-imagining some of our most beloved Disney fairytales, creating an undeniable global hit,” said ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey in a statement. “Saying goodbye will be bittersweet, but Once Upon a Time will forever be part of the ABC legacy, and we can’t wait for fans to join us in this epic final chapter.”
