Netflix is expanding the world of one of pop culture’s most enduring mystery-solving teams with the upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins, and the streamer has now officially revealed the full supporting cast joining the project. Currently in production in Atlanta, Georgia, the series is set for a global release in 2027.

The new casting announcement brings together an impressive lineup of television and film talent from across genres, adding depth to the reimagined origin story of Mystery Inc.

Among the newly announced cast members is Rusty Schwimmer, alongside Peter Macon and Maxwell Simkins.

Also joining the ensemble are Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, and Elysée Sanvillé, along with Alex Isles and Avery Kristen Pohl.

The casting list continues with Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, as well as veteran performers Bruce McGill and Sherilyn Fenn.

These newly announced actors join previously revealed series leads Mckenna Grace, Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, Maxwell Jenkins, and Paul Walter Hauser.

Notably, Scooby-Doo: Origins marks a franchise first: Scooby-Doo himself will be portrayed on screen by a real Great Dane dog, bringing a new level of realism to the beloved character while maintaining the heart of the classic series.

A Darker, Modern Take on Mystery Inc.

The series offers a fresh reimagining of the iconic group of teen detectives and their loyal canine companion. According to the official logline, the story follows Shaggy and Daphne as they spend their final summer at camp, where they become entangled in a chilling mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

They soon team up with Velma, a grounded and analytical townie, and Fred, a mysterious new arrival whose charm may hide deeper secrets. Together, the group is pulled into a haunting investigation that threatens to expose their pasts while unraveling a supernatural case that quickly spirals into a nightmare.

The series is being developed by showrunners, writers, and executive producers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg under Midnight Radio. Executive producers also include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson, with Toby Haynes directing the pilot episode.

A Legacy Franchise Reimagined

For over 50 years, Scooby-Doo has remained a cornerstone of family entertainment, spanning more than a dozen animated series, three theatrical films, and nearly 40 animated home entertainment releases. The franchise continues to evolve while maintaining its signature blend of humor, mystery, and teamwork that has made Mystery Inc. a global favorite across generations.

With Scooby-Doo: Origins, Netflix is aiming to reintroduce the franchise to a new audience while deepening its mythology in a live-action format.
