Story & Plot
Jurassic World Dominion attempts to deliver the franchise’s most ambitious concept yet: a world where dinosaurs coexist with humans on the mainland. While the premise is undeniably bold and rich with potential, the execution often feels overloaded.
The film juggles multiple storylines—reuniting franchise legends Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) with the newer-era leads Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard). Though nostalgia is potent, the weaving of these ensemble arcs lacks cohesion. Instead of a unified narrative thrust, the film hops between subplots, diluting its emotional and thematic impact.
The screenplay by Carmichael and Trevorrow vacillates between high-concept spectacle and heavy exposition. While the action set-pieces deliver, the story occasionally sidesteps logic and character depth, resulting in a film that feels epic in scale but uneven in focus.
Performances
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard continue their familiar chemistry, though here they function more as reactive protagonists, often swept up in the surrounding chaos rather than driving the story forward.
The return of Laura Dern and Sam Neill brings undeniable gravitas, but their inclusion feels more like a celebration of legacy rather than essential narrative progression. Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm provides the expected eccentric charm, yet his presence leans more toward fan service than substance.
Among the newer additions, DeWanda Wise is a standout. As pilot Kayla Watts, she exudes charisma, grit, and agency—often acting as the film’s most grounded and compelling character. Mamoudou Athie and Isabella Sermon also offer fresh energy, though their arcs would have benefited from tighter development.
Visually, the film excels. John Schwartzman’s cinematography and the creature effects bring the dinosaurs to vivid, thrilling life. However, the human drama rarely achieves the same sharpness.
Direction & Technical Craft
Colin Trevorrow aims for a grand, emotionally resonant finale to the Jurassic saga. While the ambition is clear, the pacing falters. At 147 minutes, the film often feels bloated, with stretches of exposition that sap momentum from its more engaging sequences.
Michael Giacchino’s score mixes nostalgia with new motifs, supporting both the franchise roots and the film’s expanded world. The editing by Mark Sanger keeps the action coherent, though even strong craftsmanship can’t fully streamline the overextended plot.
Production values, as expected from the franchise, remain top-tier—particularly in creature design, action choreography, and world-building scale.
Box Office Performance
Budget: Approx. USD 465 million
Worldwide Gross: USD 1.004 billion+
India Performance:

Globally, the film was a box-office juggernaut. In India, its performance was solid though not franchise-topping, reflecting mixed word of mouth.
Critical & Audience Reception
Critics worldwide responded lukewarmly, with common criticisms targeting the convoluted writing and inability to capture the awe of the original Jurassic Park. On Rotten Tomatoes, its critics’ score hovered near 38%, while audience reception was significantly more positive.
Online discussions—particularly on Reddit—highlighted disappointment over missed opportunities, especially regarding the legacy characters’ roles.
Yet, Dominion has enjoyed a strong streaming afterlife. According to reports from Collider, the film became a “global streaming sensation,” trending in more than 50 countries.
