Hollywood and the world in general lost a great one today. Director John Singleton was taken off of life support today after suffering a stroke. Singleton was 51 years old.
The director was born in Los Angeles and attended the Film Writing Program at USC just after high school in the late 1980s. While studying there, he won three writing awards from the university, which led to a contract with Creative Artists Agency during his sophomore year, according to IMDB.
Though Singleton is best known for writing the controversial Boyz N The Hood in 1991 he has had a stellar career as a writer and director ever since. Some of his lesser known works include Baby Boy, Higher Learning, Poetic Justice and the last Shaft movie. At 51 his life and career were cut far too short.
