It’s now illegal to be a superhero. The outlawing of supers utilizing their abilities even for good has forced so many to go underground. Of course, there’s still villains around (whether they be of the mundane or super variety. but, the politicians would rather folks allow them to proceed unobstructed to save the city money on damages accrued during the battles to impede crimes. This is the world our super family and friends now live in. It’s sad but, true.
Incredibles 2 picks up with the attack by The Underminer teased at the end of number 1 happening at Violet’s school. The family of crime fighters naturally, jumps into action but when the dust settles they are taken in to custody by authorities and reprimanded for the additional damage their efforts have caused.
“The Program” that was helping the bunch maintain a semi normal life is shut down and with only two weeks of financial assistance left, no home and no jobs things are looking bleak. Bleak indeed, until a man comes along offering salvation and the legalization of heroic activities once again. The question is, what are his true motives for lending a hand?
Most of the original cast is back reprising their roles as the Parr family and friends (Frozone and of course, Edna). Craig T Nelson(Mr. Incredible) Holly Hunter(Elastigirl),and Samuel L. Jackson (Frozone) don’t miss a beat picking up these characters again after a 14 year hiatus. The voice acting is top notch as well as the animation but, it is Pixar we’re talking about here. The action is even bigger than last time and that’s a very good thing.
The story is a bit darker than in the initial outing although, it’s nowhere near DC comics movies dark. The script still gives you plenty of laughs whether that be from tbe banter between heroes or the show-stealing Jack-Jack getting into trouble.
Now, if I must have a complaint about this film it is that the villains names kind of undermine (no pun intended) the threat they present which was only a nitpicky issue for me.
With a very strong script, awesome action sequences, and impeccable voice talent Incredibles 2 punches a 5 out of 5 from me. Hopefully, we won’t have as long of a lull between installments but, if the end result is this level of family entertainment (scratch that) entertainment period, I’m down to wait it out.
